Ahmed Khater is the founder of Zidni Islamic Institute. He was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in legal studies, then pursued a second B.A. from Al-Azhar University in Egypt in the Islamic Sciences and the Arabic language. He received an M.A. from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley in Islamic Law, and is now a PhD student at the Graduate Theological Union in Islamic Legal Theory and Theology. He also holds a B.A. and an M.A. in Islamic Studies from the Islamic University of Minnesota. He has received ijazat (licenses) in various Islamic Sciences, including ijazah to teach and narrate the Hanbali madhhab. He is a lecturer of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the Graduate Theological Union and Islamic University of Minnesota, a lecturer of Arabic at the University of California, Berkeley, and an editor for Al-Azhar’s Majma’ Al-Buhuth Al-Islamiyyah in Egypt.
Ammar Shahin was born in Cairo, Egypt where he began his Islamic training at a young age under the supervision of his father who was the sheikh of their village. He memorized the Qur’an at the age of twelve in various modes of recitation. He continued his Islamic education, graduating from the Institute for Preparation of Preachers with a B.A. in Islamic Studies and earning an Associates degree from Al-Forqan Institute. He then traveled to the United States in 1999 where he earned his B.S. in Computer Engineering. He then returned to Egypt where he completed his Islamic education by studying with some of the top scholars in the country, receiving from them ijazaat (licenses) in the various Islamic Sciences, including ijazah to teach and narrate the Shaafi’ madhhab. He also pursued a third B.A. at Al-Azhar University in the Islamic Sciences and Arabic language, and a fourth B.A. and an M.A. at the Islamic University of Minnesota in Islamic Studies where he is a PhD student. He has been an Imam in various mosques across the United States, and currently he is the Imam at the Islamic Center of Davis.
Dr. Mohammad Al-Rahawan was born and raised in Egypt, where he studied in the Al-Azhar system from grade school until he received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D from Al-Azhar University, specializing in Hadith sciences. He is an Associate Professor and Co-Chair of the Department of Orientalism at Taibah University in Saudi Arabia, and Associate Professor in the Department of Islamic Studies in English at Al-Azhar University, and a Professor of Islamic Studies at Mishkah University. He has received teaching liscences (ijazat) in various Islamic sciences, including in the Shaafi’i madhhab. He has authored several works in the Islamic sciences, and travels around the world teaching.
Yousef Hussin was born and raised in the United States. He traveled to Egypt where he studied at Al-Azhar University and studied various Islamic Sciences with scholars outside the University. He then studied at the Islamic University of Minnesota, earning a B.A. and M.A. in Islamic Studies. He has received numerous ijazat (licences), including ijazah in several modes of Qur’anic recitation from Sheikh Waleed Al-Meneese and Sheikh Sherzaad Tahir. He is currently the Imam of Masjid Annur in Sacramento, CA.
Shaykh Navaid completed an Associate’s degree in Commerce and Social Sciences before heading to the illustrious Islamic University of Madinah. He went on to complete a diploma in the Arabic language as well as a Bachelor’s in Islamic Law, with a specialization in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh.
Since then, Shaykh Navaid established himself as a highly sought after global lecturer and speaker. He is a passionate advocate for Muslim youth education and integration with a proven track record over the years. He is currently the Director of Religious and Social Services for the Islamic Information Society of Calgary, volunteered as Islamic Editor for Little Explorers and Recess Kids magazines, serves as a youth and family counsellor, volunteered as chaplain at S.A.I.T, and became the first ever Muslim chaplain with the Calgary Police Services in 2015. His work includes helping in the mitigation of criminal radicalization and implementing civic engagement opportunities for youth.
Dr. Mohammed Saed Najib
Sheikh Mohammed received his B.A in Islamic Law from the Islamic University of Medinah, his M.A in Qur’anic Modes of Recitation (Qira’at) from the same university, and is now finishing his PhD in Qira’at from the same university. He has received ijazahs in the various Qira’at from top specialists in the field, and has studied the other sciences with well-known scholars from Saudi Arabia and other countries. He teaches Qira’at at the Islamic University of Medinah as well as at the Prophet’s Masjid.
Muhammad Ibn Muneer
Muhammad Ibn Muneer also known as Mufti Muneer is a young and dynamic speaker born and raised in Philadelphia. After completing his education in Philadalphia, Mufti Muneer went on to the University of Madinah to pursue his Islamic education. Mufti Muneer completed his bachelors and masters degrees in Hadith and is currently pursuing his PhD. Despite his concentration in Hadith, Mufti has a strong passion to teach Fiqh. Mufti Muneer’s classes are known to be very engaging, interactive, and allow for a lot of discussion and Q&A. Mufti Muneer has had the opportunity to study under many of the prominent sheikhs of our time, from them is the al-’Allamah Shaykh Abdul Muhsin al-Abbad, may Allah preserve him.
Abu Bakr Elgarguri
Shaykh AbdurRaheem McCarthy is of Irish-American heritage and was born and raised in the USA. After accepting Islam in 1994, he moved to Sudan and then Saudi Arabia where he spent 10 years in Madinah studying under the scholars and as a student in the Islamic University of Madinah. He graduated from the Arabic Institute and then from the faculty of Da’wah and Usool Ad-Deen, Islamic University of Madinah.
He is well known from his TV shows on Peace TV, Huda TV and other channels along with lecturing internationally all around the world. He travels around the world teaching.
Shaykh McCarthy has now decided to follow his roots and is living in Ireland, while supporting dawah projects internationally. He is an avid MMA fan and loves to read, spend time with the family and enjoy the outdoors
Mohammed Hassan Uthman
Dr. Mohammed was born and raised in Egypt, where he entered the Al-Azhar system from grade school until he received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D specializing in the Arabic language. He is a professor of Arabic language at Al-Azhar and the Head of the Linguistics department in the College of Islamic Studies and Arabic language, a professor of Arabic language at Mishkah University, was a professor of linguistics at Umm Al-Qura University, and was a professor of Arabic and Imam Mohammed ibn Saud University. Dr. Uthman has authored many works, including a grammatical analysis of the entire Quran. He is a lecturer in the Al-Azhar Mosque, and from the leading scholars of Arabic language in the world.
Dr. Helmy was born and raised in Egypt. He studied the Islamic sciences with scholars in Egypt and elsewhere, and is known for his specialization in the Hanbali madhhab. He also holds a degree in medicine from the University of Zaqaziq.
Sheikh Sabbir was born and raised in Bangladesh, where he completed the program of study for the Islamic sciences taught by the scholars of his village, cumulating in teaching licenses (ijazat) in various sciences including the Hanafi madhhab. He then traveled to Cairo, Egypt to study at Al-Azhar University where he received a B.A. in Hadith sciences, and a M.A. in Hadith sciences from Dar Al-Ulum at Cairo University.
Sheikh Hosam was born and raised in Egypt. He entered the Al-Azhar system from grade school until receiving his B.A. in Islamic law. He has studied with various scholars receiving teaching licenses (ijazat). He is known for TV shows that teach the Islamic sciences and answering questions as a mufti.
Khalil Skafi was born and raised in Illinois. He received a B.A. in Communications from New Hampshire University. He then traveled to Egypt where he learned Arabic and memorized the Qur’an at Al-Ibanah Center. He studied at Al-Azhar University in the College of Shari’ah and also studied with many scholars outside the University. He received a B.A. in Islamic law from Mishkat University and is pursuing his M.A. at Medinah International University. He is an instructor at Al-Arqam Islamic school in Sacramento, CA and an Imam at Masjid Al-Eman in Stockton, CA.
Yousef Skafi was born and raised in Illinois and graduated from the University of the Pacific with a degree in Business Entrepreneurship. After graduating, he began a path pursuing Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Medinah where he studied for 6 years in the College of Shari’a and graduated with highest honors. During his time in Medinah, he was also able to study with scholars outside the University. Currently he is pursuing his M.A. in Islamic law at Medinah International University. He is an instructor at Al-Arqam Islamic school in Sacramento, CA and an Imam at Masjid Al-Eman in Stockton, CA.
Ahmad Basir born in Kabul Afghanistan and raised in the Bay Area, California is a Graduate of Darul Uloom Zakariyya South Africa. He delivers talks at various masajid and teaches Arabic and Higher Islamic Subjects. Fluent in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, and English he has great love for language and linguistics. He enjoys sports and martial arts and loves working with Muslim youth.
After completing his memorisation of the Qur’an, he graduated with a Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Birmingham (UK). He then graduated with a degree in Shari’ah from the European Institute of Human Sciences with the focus of his studies being in Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, as well as receiving ijazah in a number of Hanbali Fiqh and Hadith texts. Over the last few years he has primarily been teaching at mosques, universities, and Islamic centres.
He is the Imam and Khateeb of Masjid al-Hikmah and a Religious Studies teacher at an Islamic school in Birmingham (UK). He is currently completing postgraduate studies in Islamic Education at the University of Warwick.
Rashid Ahmedi is a California native. He grew up just outside of Sacramento in a religious household and completed memorizing the Quran at age 16. After his high school graduation, he was admitted to the world renowned Islamic University of Madinah. During his 14 year stay in the Prophet’s City, he earned 4 degrees; an Associates in Arabic, a Bachelors in Hadith and Islamic Studies, a Post Graduate Degree in Dawah, and a Masters in Teaching Arabic to Speakers of other Languages (TASOL). Additionally, Shaykh Rashid benefited greatly from traditional studies with numerous major scholars studying classical texts in fiqh, hadith, and tawhid etc. As a hafiz of the Quran, Shaykh Rashid has a passion for the various modes of recitation. While in Madinah he obtained an Ijazah/License in “Hafs ‘an ‘Asim” from a renowned scholar and master of the Quran and is currently pursuing a license in “Warsh”. During Shaykh Rashid’s stay in Madinah he was blessed to work in the Prophet’s Masjid as a translator/interpreter for the Friday prayer services under the supervision of Shaykh Abdur-Rahman al-Sudais, the Imam of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.Shaykh Rashid is happily married with 5 boys. In his spare time, he enjoys sports such as football, basketball, and baseball. Shaykh Rashid is currently the religious leader and director of GCLEA in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
Abu Ibrahim John Starling, an American convert, was born and raised in North Carolina. After graduating from NCSU’s College of Management with a B.S. in Business Management, John went on to further his education at the Islamic University of Al-Madinah. At this world renowned University he received 2 degrees; 1 from the University’s Institute of the Arabic Language and the other from the University’s College of Islamic Doctrine and Mission. During his 7.5 year stay in Al-Madinah, John attended numerous study circles with major scholars and leading students of knowledge in the Hijaz, Najd, and southern regions of KSA. He found great benefit from both the traditional and formal education he received from his teachers and professors in the sciences or Arabic, Hadith, Theology, Fiqh, Tafsir, and Islamic. He is an avid student of knowledge and continues to study with numerous scholars around the world and is currently enrolled in Murtaqa Center of Islamic Sciences pursuing numerous certificates and in The Islamic University of Minnesota’s Graduate Institute for Aalims and Da’ees pursuing a master’s degree in Islamic Studies. Shaykh Abu Ibrahim is currently the Executive Director of GCLEA in Cherry Hill, NJ.
