Ahmed Khater is the founder of Zidni Islamic Institute. He was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in legal studies, then pursued a second B.A. from Al-Azhar University in Egypt in the Islamic Sciences and the Arabic language. He received an M.A. from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley in Islamic Law, and is now a PhD student at the Graduate Theological Union in Islamic Legal Theory and Theology. He also holds a B.A. and an M.A. in Islamic Studies from the Islamic University of Minnesota. He has received ijazat (licenses) in various Islamic Sciences, including ijazah to teach and narrate the Hanbali madhhab. He is a lecturer of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the Graduate Theological Union and Islamic University of Minnesota, a lecturer of Arabic at the University of California, Berkeley, and an editor for Al-Azhar’s Majma’ Al-Buhuth Al-Islamiyyah in Egypt.
Ammar Shahin was born in Cairo, Egypt where he began his Islamic training at a young age under the supervision of his father who was the sheikh of their village. He memorized the Qur’an at the age of twelve in various modes of recitation. He continued his Islamic education, graduating from the Institute for Preparation of Preachers with a B.A. in Islamic Studies and earning an Associates degree from Al-Forqan Institute. He then traveled to the United States in 1999 where he earned his B.S. in Computer Engineering. He then returned to Egypt where he completed his Islamic education by studying with some of the top scholars in the country, receiving from them ijazaat (licenses) in the various Islamic Sciences, including ijazah to teach and narrate the Shaafi’ madhhab. He also pursued a third B.A. at Al-Azhar University in the Islamic Sciences and Arabic language, and a fourth B.A. and an M.A. at the Islamic University of Minnesota in Islamic Studies where he is a PhD student. He has been an Imam in various mosques across the United States, and currently he is the Imam at the Islamic Center of Davis.
Yousef Hussin was born and raised in the United States. He traveled to Egypt where he studied at Al-Azhar University and studied various Islamic Sciences with scholars outside the University. He then studied at the Islamic University of Minnesota, earning a B.A. and M.A. in Islamic Studies. He has received numerous ijazat (licences), including ijazah in several modes of Qur’anic recitation from Sheikh Waleed Al-Meneese and Sheikh Sherzaad Tahir. He is currently the Imam of Masjid Annur in Sacramento, CA.
Khalil Skafi was born and raised in Illinois. He received a B.A. in Communications from New Hampshire University. He then traveled to Egypt where he learned Arabic and memorized the Qur’an at Al-Ibanah Center. He studied at Al-Azhar University in the College of Shari’ah and also studied with many scholars outside the University. He received a B.A. in Islamic law from Mishkat University and is pursuing his M.A. at Medinah International University. He is an instructor at Al-Arqam Islamic school in Sacramento, CA and an Imam at Masjid Al-Eman in Stockton, CA.
Yousef Skafi was born and raised in Illinois and graduated from the University of the Pacific with a degree in Business Entrepreneurship. After graduating, he began a path pursuing Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Medinah where he studied for 6 years in the College of Shari’a and graduated with highest honors. During his time in Medinah, he was also able to study with scholars outside the University. Currently he is pursuing his M.A. in Islamic law at Medinah International University. He is an instructor at Al-Arqam Islamic school in Sacramento, CA and an Imam at Masjid Al-Eman in Stockton, CA.
Ahmad Basir born in Kabul Afghanistan and raised in the Bay Area, California is a Graduate of Darul Uloom Zakariyya South Africa. He delivers talks at various masajid and teaches Arabic and Higher Islamic Subjects. Fluent in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, and English he has great love for language and linguistics. He enjoys sports and martial arts and loves working with Muslim youth.
Rashid Ahmedi is a California native. He grew up just outside of Sacramento in a religious household and completed memorizing the Quran at age 16. After his high school graduation, he was admitted to the world renowned Islamic University of Madinah. During his 14 year stay in the Prophet’s City, he earned 4 degrees; an Associates in Arabic, a Bachelors in Hadith and Islamic Studies, a Post Graduate Degree in Dawah, and a Masters in Teaching Arabic to Speakers of other Languages (TASOL). Additionally, Shaykh Rashid benefited greatly from traditional studies with numerous major scholars studying classical texts in fiqh, hadith, and tawhid etc. As a hafiz of the Quran, Shaykh Rashid has a passion for the various modes of recitation. While in Madinah he obtained an Ijazah/License in “Hafs ‘an ‘Asim” from a renowned scholar and master of the Quran and is currently pursuing a license in “Warsh”. During Shaykh Rashid’s stay in Madinah he was blessed to work in the Prophet’s Masjid as a translator/interpreter for the Friday prayer services under the supervision of Shaykh Abdur-Rahman al-Sudais, the Imam of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.Shaykh Rashid is happily married with 5 boys. In his spare time, he enjoys sports such as football, basketball, and baseball. Shaykh Rashid is currently the religious leader and director of GCLEA in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
Abu Ibrahim John Starling, an American convert, was born and raised in North Carolina. After graduating from NCSU’s College of Management with a B.S. in Business Management, John went on to further his education at the Islamic University of Al-Madinah. At this world renowned University he received 2 degrees; 1 from the University’s Institute of the Arabic Language and the other from the University’s College of Islamic Doctrine and Mission. During his 7.5 year stay in Al-Madinah, John attended numerous study circles with major scholars and leading students of knowledge in the Hijaz, Najd, and southern regions of KSA. He found great benefit from both the traditional and formal education he received from his teachers and professors in the sciences or Arabic, Hadith, Theology, Fiqh, Tafsir, and Islamic. He is an avid student of knowledge and continues to study with numerous scholars around the world and is currently enrolled in Murtaqa Center of Islamic Sciences pursuing numerous certificates and in The Islamic University of Minnesota’s Graduate Institute for Aalims and Da’ees pursuing a master’s degree in Islamic Studies. Shaykh Abu Ibrahim is currently the Executive Director of GCLEA in Cherry Hill, NJ.
